Single-Tooth Dental Implants in Los Angeles

Clinically reviewed and approved by Dr. Olga Karnakova, DDS

A single-tooth implant replaces one missing tooth with an implant in the jaw and a custom crown above the gumline. At Cal Dental Group, the plan considers the appearance of your smile, your bite, and the health of the surrounding teeth.

How does an implant crown replace one tooth?

The implant provides support within the jaw; an abutment connects it to the visible crown. Unlike a conventional bridge, a single implant crown does not rely on reshaping the neighboring teeth for support. Your dentist will compare both options and explain whether the existing tooth can reasonably be saved before recommending removal.

Front tooth or back tooth: what changes?

For a visible front tooth, bring photographs of your smile and describe what matters to you about shade, shape, and the gumline. Ask what temporary replacement you can wear during treatment. For a molar, discuss chewing forces, the space available for the crown, and any grinding or clenching. The recommended implant position and restoration are planned together.

What will your treatment plan include?

Your consultation should identify whether extraction, gum treatment, or bone grafting is needed; who will place the implant; and who will fit the crown. Some patients can have an implant placed when a tooth is removed, while others need staged treatment. Ask for a timeline with the temporary and final crown clearly identified.

Make the consultation useful

Tell us when the tooth was lost, whether the area hurts, and whether you already have a bridge or denture. Bring your medication list and any recent dental records. Ask to review the proposed crown design, cleaning access, itemized fee, and alternatives before deciding. A photograph alone cannot establish implant suitability.

Questions patients ask

Will the crown match my other teeth?

The crown is planned around your existing smile. Discuss shade, shape, and the gumline at the consultation; individual appearance and results vary.

Can a front tooth be replaced the same day?

A temporary tooth may be possible in selected cases. Immediate implant placement and immediate attachment of a tooth are separate decisions.

Is the crown included in an implant quote?

Confirm that the written estimate includes the implant, abutment, crown, and any preparatory care. A price for the implant alone is not a complete tooth-replacement price.
