Same-Day Dental Implants & Teeth in a Day in Los Angeles

Clinically reviewed by Dr. Michael Issakharian, DDS

Same-day implant care may combine selected treatment steps, but the phrase can mean different things. An implant placed immediately after extraction is different from receiving a temporary tooth on that implant the same day.

Three terms worth separating

Immediate placement means an implant is placed at the extraction visit. Immediate loading or restoration refers to attaching replacement teeth soon after placement in appropriate cases. Final restoration refers to the completed crown, bridge, or denture. Ask which of these is included when a treatment is described as “same-day.”

What can happen on the treatment day?

For a suitable single-tooth or full-arch case, the surgical plan may include extraction, implant placement, and a temporary restoration. The decision depends on the site and implant stability. Consultation, imaging, design work, and later follow-up still form part of the treatment.

Prepare a backup plan for temporary teeth

Ask what you will wear if the implant cannot be placed immediately or cannot support a fixed temporary tooth. Discuss whether the alternative will be removable, how it will look, and any eating restrictions. Knowing that plan in advance makes the day easier to understand.

Healing continues after you leave

A temporary restoration does not mean the implant has finished integrating with the bone. Follow the individual instructions about chewing, cleaning, activity, and follow-up. Ask when the temporary will be assessed and what must happen before the final restoration is made. If you are planning around travel or a major event, tell the team before setting treatment dates.

Questions patients ask

Can everyone receive teeth in a day?

No. Bone, gum health, medical history, the treatment design, and stability at surgery affect eligibility.

Are same-day teeth the final teeth?

Often they are temporary teeth used during healing. Confirm the material, expected service period, and cost of the final restoration.

Can an infected or broken tooth receive an immediate implant?

An examination is needed. Infection, damaged tissues, and bone conditions can change timing. Do not delay urgent care while researching implant options.
